C.C. King

So, you rolled a warlock and leveled it to 85 and you still don't make the same dps as a mage with the same gear. You can't tank or heal. Whatever do you do in dungeons anyway?

First of all, this is not a post about how much better warlocks are compared to other dps classes. We are not better or worse, just different.

Warlocks might not be known for the best dps around but when it comes to cc (Crowd Control) we are very good. And, yes, I know other classses can freeze, trap and polymorph too but no other class has the same range of cc that a warlocks has. Depending on the setup of the mobs (some luck and a huge amount of skill) we can keep up to 4 mobs busy at the same time. :)

To be able to take down a group of mobs you need to split them up, otherwise the tank will take more damage than any healer would be able to heal. (And, no, the solution is not to exchange one dps for a second healer since then you'd have too little damage to get the mobs down at all.) And here are some tips for all you warlocks out there. :)

The most important thing is to mark your targets. Everyone in the group need to know what targets that are cc'ed. Most cc breaks if the target takes damage so everyone NEED to stay away from those mobs.

But since pets are retards, aoe damage might be hard to get to just the targets you wanted or you happen to tab one time too many and fire at the wrong target. This is where warlocks comes and saves the day. :)

If the target is an Elemental or a Demon you can cast Banish on them. This will phase out the mob and make invulnerable but also completely harmless. And, again, mark your cc'ed targets. You don't want the tank and the other dps'es to waste energy on trying to beat up mobs that don't take any damage.

Another good way to keep a Demon in to use Enslave Demon on it. This is a bit of a gamble since you will turn that Demon into your minion (removing any minion you might have had) and when the spell breaks it will come running for you. The Demon that gest enslaved will get its casting speed slowed by 30% and time between attacks increased by 40%. This is not a bad thing if you use it right, send it to fight another demon of equal strenght and it will die and you don't have to worry about getting an angry demon back. And in the process you keep two mobs busy while you kill the others.

Two mobs punching eachother.

And last but not least, Fear. I have two wishes for 2011: 1) That all warlocks get Glyph of Fear. Infact the three most important things you need to know about Fear is: Get the glyph, get the glyph and get the frickin glyph. 2) And that players who play other classes will get Feared alot in bg's so that they'll learn that Fear no longer means that you run around aimlessly and that there is no risk that you pull other mobs with it.

The best thing about Fear is that the target is able to take a small amount of damage without breaking the cc. I sometimes even cast it on one of the mobs being tanked just to keep the total dps on the tank down a little even if it is just for a second. But the best way to use it is still to pick a mob to keep in Fear until you got the others down. You need to remember to refresh the Fear often. I usually cast a new Fear every 5-15 seconds even though it should last much longer just to be on the safe side.

Ok, so now we have one mob Banished, two mobs fighting somewhere and one standing still shivering in Fear. Taking down the last mob(s) will be a breeze. :)

You can also use cc while questing. My favourite rotation when questing and I'm targeting a single target is to start with a Soul Fire before the mobs is agroed followed by a Fear. With a little luck the Fear will cast just fractions of a second after the Soul Fire hits making the target stand still and not attack. Then an Immolate, Chaos Bolt and Conflagrate. The Fear should hold for the Immolate and any Fire Bolt the Imp has cast but will break when Chaos Bolt and Conflagrate hits. The nice things about Conflagrate, except the huge amount of damage is that the target will get slowed by it. And if you continue with Incinerate and maybe a Shadowfury you should be able to get most mobs down before they even have the chance to reach you. :)

Battle grounds is a fun place to use cc. :) Use Banish to get rid of other players minions. And don't under estimate the joy you get from a Shadowfury + Fear to halt a flag-carrier and watch him get beaten up. Or simply a Fear to stop a healer for a couple of seconds.

The day that Deathwing came.

While waiting for my ride I did some lowlvl quests... this quest line is probably the funniest I have ever seen in this game.. :)

(And now I'm off for christmas-dinner and shenanigans with my brothers. :) Take care.)

torsdag 23 december 2010

How could I have missed this?

From the December 16 hotfix:

"It is no longer possible to waste a Soulstone by attempting to use it on a dead target. The player will receive an Invalid Target error message at the completion of their channel. In a future patch, we intend this functionality to work correctly, allowing a Soulstone to be used to instantly resurrect a dead target."

Please please please let us be able to battle-res. :D

Merry Xmas. :)

Time for a short break...but I'll be back after christmas with a post on warlock crowd control and what you can do to get your group through that dungeon/raid without an wipes. :)

My experimental destro-lock talent tree.

Link: http://wowtal.com/#k=BlH5KtO.a5o.warlock.qCvmBo

This is the talent tree I use for my destruction warlock. And as I said to my class leader, it looks like someone who didn't know what spec to choose has sprinkled the points all over the place. But here are my thoughts behind it.

First of all, this is a destruction build so the destro branch is more or less a standard build, we want Shadowfury and Chaos Bolt but skip some things like Backlash, which is pretty useless now when we have Fel Flame. We skip Nether Ward/Protection and place those points in Demonic Embrace instead. +7% stamina vs. 7223 spell damage absorbed kind of balance eachother out.

In Demonology I want to have Demonic Embrace and Dark Arts. Both are very nice and I'd be glad to spend  more points on them but I need to save some points left for the Affliction branch. You want Demonic Embrace for the stamina and points in Dark Arts will turn your Imp from a sluggish little hang-around to a fierce fireballing demon. We skip Mana Feed and put the points in Improved Life Tap instead. Would the Imp run out on mana, since it won't get any from our Life Tap, we can always get a new one with Soul Burn + Summon Imp.

Six points left and we get to the Affliction branch. We spend some points to get Doom and Gloom and a little Improved Corruption. Since we where a bit cheap in the Demonology branch and didn't get the full +10% stamina we spend some points on Improved Life Tap so that we won't tap ourselves to death during fights.

And then, the pièce de résistance; Jinx.

"JinxRank 1
Your Curse of the Elements also effects up to 15 nearby enemy targets within 20 yards of the cursed target.

Also, your Curse of Weakness reduces the targets energy, rage, focus or runic power generation by 5% while active."

All mobs standing near the mob with Curse of the Elements will get Jinxed. (But will not be aggroed.) This will give them a debuff that increase damage taken from magic by 8%. CotE on a target and you and the other casters will AoE those mobs down quicker than ever before. :)

I'm sure this is not "The Destro-build" cause we've made a few sacrifices on our own dps and survivability. But I think it is valuable to look further than just your own personal dps and see what you can do for the group. With the realease of Cataclysm I get the feeling that warlocks have turned from being, more or less, braindead, aggro-hogging, healer-leeching dps'es to have a more central role. We can Fear, Banish and Enslave Demons (all at the same time), hand out Healthstones and Soulstones, summon people and give a nice boost with Dark Intent. So giving all casters a +8% on their damage seem, to me, something that fits even a destruction warlock quite well. :)

EDIT: I do miss Mana Feed a little. But as long as I remember to cast one of my Improved Life Tap everything is ok. (And remember not to stand in any fire.)

Fear, Banish and Polymorph.

Last night I went with some people from the guild to do a dungeon. And I must say that it was the most fun I've had in a dungeon for ages. :) Dark Intent on the healer, we tagged the mobs, the mage Polymorphed one mob, I Feared another and Banished an Elemental. Then we took down the remaining mobs and after that the CC'ed mobs, one by one. With my crappy gear I didn't do a lot of damage, but it was extremely fun to fight and keep an eye on the CC'ed mob at the same time.

I hope that it will stay this way. I hope that dungeons and raids, even after people has geared up, still will be team work and not just a tank-n-spank-run.

(Oh, and if you haven't got Glyph of Fear yet, get it, now.)

onsdag 15 december 2010

Gear?

The correct reply to "I need new wrists, new hands and new pants." is NOT "Or a girlfriend."

Get to the Choppa!

I know... It is too big. It was too expensive. And the prices will drop soon. And who need a land mount now?

I just always wanted one. :) And with the insane amount of gold I managed to collect during the questing from 80 to 85 I could get one without feeling too bad. :) (And "insane" is relative, I never had more than 5-6k gold before.)

Lvl85: The big "meh".

The last and final spell that you learn as a warlock is Demon Soul.

"Demon Soul
15% of base mana100 yd range
Instant cast2 min cooldown
Requires Metamorphosis
You and your summoned demon fuse souls, granting the Warlock a temporary power depending on the demon currently enslaved.

Imp - Critical Strike damage on cast time Destruction spells increased by 60% for 30 sec.  Each spell cast benefitting from this effect reduces the bonus by 20% until the bonus expires after 3 casts.

Voidwalker - All threat generated by you transferred to your Voidwalker for 15 sec.

Succubus - Shadow Bolt damage increased by 10% for 20 sec.

Felhunter - Periodic shadow damage increased by 20% for 20 sec.

Felguard - Spell haste increased by 15% and fire and shadow damage done increased by 10% for 20 sec."

As a destruction warlock with an Imp I can't say much else than, "meh". Extra damage for three of your spells every 2 minutes, just slightly more than the damage of one extra spell. (If I've done the math right.) Pretty useless.

For warlocks with a succubus, felhunter or felguard it is a little bit better. That extra damage could be nice to have if you need to take down a boss quick.

The only really nice use for this would be if you have a voidwalker or have a Soul Burn left to get an instant summon. I haven't tried it myself yet but I imagine it could be used if you happen to aggro a mob and manage to keep your head cool enough to do a Soul Burn, Summon Voidwalker and then spam Searing Pain until the mob decides to go after your minion instead. And maybe use Health Funnel to keep it alive until a real tank can help you. It sounds a bit complicated and it will probably be a big failure but I will try it sometime. :) Nice to have an extra CC if you can't use Fear or Shadowfury.

LEVEL 85!

Lvl83: The level where warlocks will fall in love with resto druids.

At level 83 warlocks get a new spell Dark Intent.

"You link yourself with the targeted friendly target, increasing both of your haste by 3%.

When you or the linked target gains a critical periodic damage or healing effect, the other gains an increased 3% increased periodic damage and healing lasting for 7 sec. Stacks up to 3 times. Dark Intent lasts for 30 min."

So, what does that have to do with resto druids? Well, they have a nice HoT uptime and hopefully enough crits to keep the buff up for you. :) And your Immolate and Corruption will make your healer do more healing. With that extra haste, increased damage/healing plus that the healer don't have to waste precious mana on you since you can get much of you health back with drain life from mobs, warlocks/resto druids will be a really powerful combination.

If you battle res me I'll soul stone you. :)

Lvl81 and Fel Flame

Yay! I reached lvl81! ... And, yea, I know a lot of people are 85 now. :P

But the best thing about a new lvl is not the talent point that I'd randomly placed in ...some place... don't remember where but I think I need to come up with a good excuse to the class leader later.

Anyway, what lvl81 brought was Fel Flame. (Cue dramatic music.)

Good: Green fire. (Cool)
Bad:  Doesn't do alot of dmg.
Awesome: Instant refresh of Immolate. (And UA, but I'm not an aff.lock)

Still not excited? :) ..Let me rephrase: Instant....refresh of Immolate. Instant.

In PvE it will be great since you don't need to waste time on refreshing Immolate which is important to keep up for Conflagrate and Incinerate.

This will also be great in PvP, no need for standing still in BG's. You don't have to stand still while trying to refresh that Immolate, waiting for Conflagrate to come off cooldown and hoping that a rouge won't sap you in the meantime. It is also very nice as a "finishing blow". I don't know how many times I've managed to get someone down under 2k hp in a bg and then see him/her get back to full hp while I'm trying to cast the next spell. Not any more. >:) You can run...but I'll run after you, spamming Fel Flame until my Conflagrate or Soul Burn/Soul Fire is ready... See you at the graveyard, horde.

Playing Cata... can't post..

Yes, I got Cata. Yes, I am playing. No...I don't have time to tell you how awesome it is. :)

Cataclysm is here!

Stormwind was filled with hundreds of people, many riding on their mammoths. Countdown started, 5..4..3..2..1..Cataclysm!!!

Then the chaos started. Think you can sum up the night and peoples comments about the first few hours of Cataclysm like this:

omg...can't log on!! Battle.net crashed! Need to restart WoW.. AAAHG, now it started to download patches. rebooting, brb. Still can't log in!!! F...K!

I was hoping that Deathwing would swoop down from the sky and attack everyone. Or something like that. :)

Apparently he choose a different route and struck us where it hurt the most.

(And I still haven't decided what class I'll play on my worgen.)

Gearscore-fright.

I thought that I was a rather skilled warlock. Not super-skilled but atleast knew what I was doing. Ok, I could be better at PvP and use my instant-casts more and not just stand still. But in PvE I was confident that I had everything under control. Gems, talents, spell-rotation...everything. I had checked my theoretical output with Simulationcraft and I was a bit lower on dps than I could be but I figured that theory and real life was two different things. I was a good, warlock. Or so I thought.

Until last night.

The guild gathered to do an Ulduar achievment-run. Lots of new (to me) guildies and the warlock class-leader was there. First boss (after the tanks) I start my usual rotation, doting and aoeing for all I'm worth. The class-leader out dps'es me with over 2k. Nothing wrong with that. She is a good player and...then my cursor goes over her char when she is running by and her name tag and gs shows for a moment in the bottom right corner.

And the gs is blue.

Blue! Not red. I point at her again. 2.3k gs. 2.3! She has less than half of my gs and still I'm having trouble keeping up. I check again. Yupp, 2.3, scanned 1 hour ago. I reset recount. Try as best I can to do everything right. Still no luck. I go over the fight on recount to see if I'm missing anything. But, no, we use the same spells and basically the same rotation. Am I missing something else? I try to keep a close look on my cooldowns of Conflagerate and Chaos Bolt. Better but still far from good.

So I ask what I'm doing wrong and say I'm sorry for not being able to keep the dps up. "You are doing fine.", she says. "But you are doing so much more damage than me.", I reply. "Yea, but you have different gear. :)". Different gear...what did I miss? Ok, I'm slightly over the hit cap and could have used that on other stats. But it should not matter that much. Do I need more haste? More intellect? I inspect her gear. And everything she has is much much better than mine. Everything.

Then the gearscore addon decides it is time to update. 6k, it says after I close the inspect window. 6k not 2.3k. That made more sense. I wasn't getting my ass kicked by someone with half of my gs. I was still getting kicked by someone but at least she had better gear than me. :)

Moral of the story. Question everything. :) Addons may have old information stored. Your rotation might not be optimal, try new variations from time to time to test things out.

...And I hope she laughed with me and not at me... :D

What to do when Cataclysm starts.

Since everyone else are going to roll goblins or worgen, here are some thing you can do when Cataclysm is released:

1. Roll a human, bring some Fei Fei Doggy Treats to Gilneas. Instant awesomeness.
2. Ask worgen hunters if they can Feign Death. /cheer /pet

(Good doggie at 1:28)
3. Ask goblins what they are going to be an orc or a troll when they grow up.
4. See a worgen with a Perky Pug. "Is it yours?"

Glyph of Fear

This is my new favorite glyph: Glyph of fear. :)

At first it doesn't look like much. The target you fear will stand still and it will cost you a 5 sec cooldown before you can Fear again. Why would anyone want that? Useless effect and a long cooldown on Fear, that sucks.

But, think again. :) Blizzard tries hard to make things balanced. So a long cooldown must mean that the effect is really nice.

In PvE you can start using Fear. The mobs will no longer run around like headless chicken and pull the entire room. Ok, to be fair, it isn't very useful in PvE. In a perfect world the tanks hold all the aggro and you will stand as far away as you can, spamming Seed of Corruption. But we all know that warlocks are aggro-magnets and now we have an awesome cc to use to buy ourselves some time. :)

But where this glyph really shines is in PvP or rather in BG's. :) Team up with someone with a melee-class and a Fear, Immolate, Conflagrate and a big sword later it will be game over for any clothie-priest or -mage. Same things with paladins. I don't know how many times I've seen a paladin stand and heal him-/her-self and keep 3-4 players busy while the other hordes steal the flag. A simple Fear and it will buy enough time to get that pala down.

Or is that cat-form druid flag-carrier running away from everyone? Mount up and use Shadowfury* on them which will give you enough time to Fear them. After that it is a simple task to get that flag back. :)

I have to admit that I'm not, by far, a good PvP'er. :) I suck at duels and I only go into bg's when I don't have anything else to do. But what I managed to figure out is that bg's is all about team-work. And while Fear won't give you any killing blows it is a very fun (and probably extremely annoying for the enemy) way to help your team win. :) (Oh, almost forgot, a Seed of Corruption or two will get you quite a lot of hk's if that is what you are looking for.)

*) The nice thing with Shadowfury is that it is an instant cast. Meaning, you don't have to dismount to cast it. You will have to use the keyboard to run the last few yards while you use the mouse to aim.

Kingslayer!

/cheer It finally happen. :) I killed the Lich King. Well, not me personally but me and people from my new guild. :)

We had planned to focus this week on getting the Kingslayer title now before Cata. Had a few dates set up for when we were going. And we got him down on the first try. :)

"So, what are we going to do for the rest of the week?"
"*Shrug* I don't know. Maybe explore more of the changes since the shattering?"

...

To cut a long story short. :) Seems like we are going to play hide and seek in Gilneas before they start to fill it with NPC's. :)

Time for a new guild, again. But I get a feeling that this one is a keeper. :) I just joined Accolade. ...to be honest, I haven't had much time to see the new guildies yet. I just sat quiet on vent and listened to them talking and type a few shy messages on the guild chat. But they seem to be very nice. :) Hope I get a chance to raid with them soon. (If just Blizzard could give us a break and not push out new patches every 2 minutes that break everything from dungeons and secondary talents to chat interfaces...)

I has addons.

Warlocks in Cataclysm: Soul Burn / Soul Harvest

One very nice change to warlocks in Cataclysm is Soul Burn.

It took a while for me to get used to the new system with soul shards. From being something you had to collect and save and not waste them so you were left without when you really need them to make a summoning portal or a soul stone.

The old system made me skip using shards completely during battle. I didn't want to waste any and be without when I needed to keep soul stones up or summon ppl who got lost or had a long way to run back to the group after they died.

First of all, the ability to summon your minion instantly (even while running) is great. After a wipe you can run in, Life Tap a couple of times, Soul Burn and Summon your Imp, without having to stop at all. Then take a short break with Soul Harvest to regain health and shards. :) No more long wait, eating, drinking and summoning.

During combat instant Soul Fire is extremely useful as...hmm...a kind of crowd control. (If you by crowd control mean blast the mobs to pieces.) You may also start a fight with: Soul Burn (get the buff), Harvest Soul (regain the shard) and then Soul Fire. Mix this with Immolate/Conflagrate, Shadowfury and Death Coil and the mobs won't even have a chance to get close enough to hurt you. :)

Also, to all you healers out there. After combat warlocks usually Life Tap their mana back, leaving them with very little health left. Don't bother too much with restoring it for us as we can (should) do it by our self with Soul Harvest. During battle it is nice to keep us somewhere between 50-80% health though. We don't expect you to keep us at 100% all the time during a fight, there are others who need that more. But since we are aggro-magnets it is nice to not have too little health, we are squichy and need all the health we can get to not be one-shotted. :)

...in return I usually try to steal aggro from mobs that attack the healers. :) <3

Say hello to my little friend.

As if it wasn't enough to have a minion and being able to enslave demons, warlocks can now summon a Doomguard guardian that will fight with you for 45 seconds. I haven't figured out if it does any noticable amount of damage, but I must say that I look rather awesome with a Doomguard, an Imp and two Val'kyrs from my Nibelung. :)

Also, the Imp has got a new spell, Singe Magic, which is supposed to remove a harmful spell from a friendly target. Only problem is that I have no clue when I've have time in a fight to use it or even what button to bind it to.

Warlocks in Cataclysm

Ok... Cata is here and I must say that I almost paniced last night... Where are my talents? What happen to all my spells? ...and all my addons were broken... Not even my beloved Fishing Buddy worked.

I made a quick stop at the Warlock trainer to get some new spells and then spent my talent points just to get something to work with.

And then I started to notice all the nice things warlocks got. :)

First of all, and this is something hunters got aswell, we can tell our minions to go to a place and stay there. Not sure yet what it is good for, but it sure wa fun to let him run around and annoy people. :)

And the soulshards are gone. (Yay!) Instead of carrying a bag (hopefully) filled with junk I now have a new bag-slot (with a nice, 20 slot, Ebon Shadowbag) and 3 soulshards per fight to use. So instead of constantly worrying about running out of shards it is now time to revisit the spellbook and start using all those shard-guzzling-spells I never dared to use before. :D ...oh, and we got an Evocation-like spell to heal and get new shards, out of combat.

Going to spend the weekend checking my new spell and tell you all about how awesome they are... ;)

Some warlock poetry.

To all the tanks I've out aggroed, to the healers I've used as a mana-resource. To all the dps'es I've outclassed, especially the mage who had 800+ higher gs than me. To the people who can't cast their buffs, cause my Felhunter already gives an awesome Intellect buff.

To the mobs and unfortunate PvP enabled players I've fearkited. To people who have been summoned into the deep, cold ocean. All of you who don't get any pets or mounts with your class. And lets not forget all the 15 year old boys who don't have and never will get, a Succubus minion.

...a short poem to show you how I feel:

Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
I never go oom if I would drink your QQ.

Taking Gnomeregan back!!!

YEEAAAH!!!! Finally! We gnomes will get our home back again!!! Why is this so great? Well... Think this song explains it all. :)

There is no place like gnome. :)

The warlock mindset.

Just started leveling a new warlock and it struck me how much easier it was this time now that I learned how warlocks work...or rather...how to think when you play a warlock.

Playing a character is more than than the correct gems, enchants and a perfect timed rotation. You also need to have the correct mindset. :)

Playing a tank-class you are the center of attention. The healer does all he/she can do to keep you alive, the dps'es help you all they can and everyone follow you through the dungeon. You need to be a good leader and keep track of everyone in your group.

As a healer you take care of everyone and rely on them to protect you from the mobs.

On the surface warlock are a class that "do damage". But the difference from other dps-classes are that warlocks are selfish and evil bastards. Please let me elaborate... :)

Or minions, the Imp, Voidwalker, Fel hunter/guard and Succubus are NOT our pets. Hunters name their pets and feed them, take care of them and goes through a lot of trouble finding a special pet that they like. Minions can't be named, we don't feed them and they rarely have anything nice to say/emote. In short, they are just expendable tools. If things goes wrong, just send in your minion to get the aggro while you run away. (You might want to macro "/laugh" to a button you can click while running.)

Warlocks have no nice buffs to give out. Unless you call Unending Breath nice or useful. Ok, we can do Health stones, but honestly... ppl should have brought potions themselves. :) And, yes, we can summon. But the difference between summoning and the mages teleports are: "May I please teleport you to a city of your choise?" and "Come here and heal/tank for me while I let my minion do most of the work.".

Oh, yes, we do have Soul Stones. But they are to keep the healer alive. We need them to heal us while we Life Tap. (Just a word of caution, never yell at the healer that they take too many mana breaks...leave that to the rest of the group.)

Also, DoTs are pure evil. You might feel that rouges are devious and sneaky but nothing beats the viciousness of a bunch on DoTs. If you (or a mob) starts to feel that the fight isn't going their way and decides to flee...it is already too late. As a warlock you can just stand and smile at your opponent while they are running away (You might want to have a "/smile" macro aswell.) and then /laugh when they die and you are running for cover. Doesn't matter if you managed to run out of range of a warlock, it is just a matter of time before you drop dead while someone /laughs in the distance.

In a dungeon/raid, as a warlock, you spam Seed of Corruption on a couple of mobs and then leave the hard work of fighting to the others. Yes, you can use the /laugh-macro here when SoC procs from the dps of the others and people are standing there wondering what just happened.

Face of evil(?)
In short. To be a good warlock you should have the mindset of a complete bastard. :) Minions aren't pets. Buffs are something others do. Team mates are not mates as much as tools to keep aggro and heal you.

And why does mages have a nice tower in SW while we have our trainer in a murky cellar? And Dalaran, the city of mages... where is the city of warlocks? I guess that if there was such a place no one would ever want to go there. :)

So. Comments, please! :) What are the mindsets of other classes? Are hunters people who likes to collect pets? And are mages just people who like to drink alot? Are Death Knights the equivalent of emo-kids? And do people choose warriors because they feel a need to compensate for something?  :)

(Spamming my /laugh-macro.)

Warlock coward-tactics. :)

(Click on the image for a larger version)

This is one of the reasons I love warlocks. :)

1. Target your enemy. And press Ctrl-1 to let your minion attack.
2. While your imp is busy. Sidestep (run for your life to a safe distance).
3. Throw some DoTs and some Shadow Bolts.
4. ...
5. Profit! :)

Even if your Imp dies or if you would out-aggro it, you still have a second or two before your enemy gets to you.
You can use this as a low-lvl lock before you get Fear and can start fear-kiting the mobs. :)

Raiding is fun...but...

I miss the feeling I had when I started playing WoW. Exploring unknown maps. Running around in the forests in Dun Morogh. Feeling a little bit scared every time I flew over Burning Steppes. Questing and building up a nice guild... But now I'm lvl80, most of my old guild friends have scattered to other guilds and it isn't fun doing quests that don't give you much, so I do my dailies, do the same dungeons I've run million times before... *Sigh*

Maybe I should start new character...but then it is 20 levels without a mount...leveling fishing and cooking.

Maybe it is time to start guild-hopping again soon? :)

New UI again... :)

Skipped MetaHud and shrunk some things down and moved them.

(And, yes, the bag is gone. ;) ...and if I open it, it will hide the Recount window. In other words, only one "evil" thing visible at a time.)

Kiss my ***.

While going through my old screenshots I found this one.

Probably one of the best guild names ever. :)

New UI

...still not completely satisfied, but I like it much better than the old one. :)

Think I'll try to shrink things down a little to get back some of the viewable area. :)

...and, yes, I want my bag there. ;)

Moments of epic fail/win. #1

It might be a bit nerdy but every once in a while you do or stumble upon something in WoW that you wish you could have recorded to show to everyone. :) This is one of those moment...

I was standing outside ICC waiting for a raid to start when I see a horde fly by, with pvp enabled. Usually I have the philosophy of "live and let live" but this time I just couldn't resist. >:)

So I enabled pvp and started to fear him and throw dots on him. It is probably the first and only time I've managed to keep a player perfectly fear-kited. :) After a while he was almost dead but managed to flee on his flying mount, straight up, out of reach from my spells.

Then the last dot ticked and killed him. ...too bad there aren't any sound effects when dead taurens splash into the ground but it sure was hilarious to watch. :D

Then I did what any brave clothie warlock would do, heartstoned to a safe place and laughed.

Lich King!

Sometimes to get more luck than you deserve. :) Last night I wasn't suppose to go raiding but they needed one more person and I was invited anyway...to ICC...the last boss...o.O

Luckily I had read the tactics and we did a "dry run" so that everyone would know what to do. We didn't get him down and we did a bunch of silly mistakes. Like when I was to focused on running to the tank so I missed the quake and fell of the platform...

Maybe I wasn't the brightest star in the raid group but I don't think I did too bad for a social-member who never been there before. :)

(Gonna try to tweak my UI so I won't loose track of where I am and write some nice macros to get the Val'kyrs down quicker.)
I know... The UI is terrible...but it is much better now. :)

I haz Nibelung!!11!

Almost forgot. :)

Managed to get a Nibelung last time I was in a raid. :)

People seem to be complaining that it has bad stats and a low proc rate for such a high ilvl... But I don't care, I think it is awesome. :D And I love the Val'kyrs. Mmmm...

Changes in Cataclysm...WTF!

"Hellfire will no longer deal damage to the warlock."

o.O How am I now supposed to kill myself?

Why would I want to do that? Well, I know atleast once when I saved the entire raid team from being locked in by killing myself, run back an teleport everyone out on the other side of the door. :P

Hm. Seems like Cataclysm will make me relearn/rethink a lot of things. :)

I <3 GM's

Ok, it takes forever to get hold of one and sometimes they can't (or aren't allowed to) help you. But they've always been nice and if you ask kindly they can sometimes tell you a joke.

I think I'll try and ask for one next time a salesman call me on the phone.

Ruby Sanctum

My first raid with KoE. :D We were supposed to do ICC-10, but decided to go to Ruby Sanctum instead since people were locked to two different teams since the wednesday-run.

Great people to play together with, I didn't mess up too much and we managed to get most of the tactics right... but after a few wipes we had to call it a day. :) But I must say that it was a long time since I had this much fun.

(I guess this boss didn't like Eclipse at all)

What the...?

One of the guildies saw someone carrying this in IF.

No raid yet. :(

...but atleast I got some very nice hints on talents and spellrotation...and enchants and gems... In other words, everything. :)

But now I make ALOT more dps. Can't do normal lich king dungeons, unless I want to be the tank. No newbie lvl80 tanks can stand up to my aggro. :D

So... no raid, but I got dragged along to Black Rock Spire with a lvl60-somthing and a lvl80 mage, who had 800 more in gs than me. So, I thought... Ok, a mage, with 5800 in gs. Mages are supposed to do alot of dmg what I am doing here?

But as someone said... :) It's not about gs, it's about skill. Got 150% of his dmg...lol... never seen a player that frustrated before. :D

Knights of Elysium

o.O ...just joined a "real" raiding-guild. As a trial member...lets see if I get picked for the raid on tuesday. Really need to read up on the tactics or I guess they'll kick me out before I even get summoned to ICC. :D

The class...

Not really sure why I picked a gnome. Just thought they looked cute. :) *Shrug* The class on the other hand was picked carefully. There really isn't any other class to choose, warlocks rock. :D

We have minions, can keep the healer alive in dungeons, summon party members and fear kite people around. >:D

Think it is the anarchist in me who loves warlocks, not really bound by rules on how things should be. Wanna dabble in black magic? *Shrug* Why not? Fight with a sword? Yea. Become a demon and tank for a while? Sure. Fear kite your targets and suck the life out of them, gaining health in a battle. Or just summon your "friends" to the bottom of the sea when you are bored. Watching them drown while you have Unending breath. Giggle. Life is grand as a warlock. :D

Oh, did someone say mana break? I'll just Life tap and drain back the health from my next target.

The name...

Why Shogoth?

It is taken from the name of a monster in a novel by H.P Lovecraft, my favourite author.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoggoth

Shogoth sounded softer than shoggoth, so I choose a single g instead of two. :)

I also like the tale of how the shoggoths were slaves but later evolved a mind of their own. ...but I don't think we should over-analyze that part too much... :D

Yay! 5k+ gs!

Shogoth finally managed to pass the magic 5k mark with his gear score. Would have done that long ago if I only had bothered to read up a little...a quick visit to the vendor and a bunch of honor points later I got the epic achievment and nice new gs. :)

If I only could let go of my three-year-olds attitude of "I want to do it myself" and ask my friend to enchant some stuff instead of doing it myself I might actually start doing some real dmg aswell. :D

(Yes, Móón, I'm talking about you. :) But you are never online when I remember I need the ench.)

The story of Sho and the guy behind him.

So, who is Sho? Shogoth is a tiny gnome. Who wasn't really supposed to be in WoW in the first place. But after a 10 day trial there was no turning back. :)

Apparently some people say he looks a bit like Jonas, the guy that controlls him. And if you wonder Jonas is the guy to the left.

No, wait a minute. Eh.. Jonas is in the ... eh.. right picture. lol, how could I be misstaken? There are no leather sofas in WoW. ...anyway...

Before we start describing Sho's journey let me tell you a litle about Jonas. He is an ordinary computer nerd born in 1973. Very nice, very shy, doesn't make much noise. Works as a systemadministrator. Is really really addicted to WoW... o.O ... Weird sense of humor. Listens alot to Pink Floyd. And he loves his kids. :')

Thats about it. :)

/Jonas (Sho)
